I was surfing the channels randomly, when I saw a dance show aired on Star Plus. It’s not often that you get to see Indian dance here in New Jersey especially with western dance being the staple preference. The name of the reality show is Nach Baliye 4. Harshad Chopra, the chocolate boy of Indian Television came to the show. His Baliye was selected by the esteemed judges. The lucky girl was Sanjukta Ray from Kolkata who will perform with Harshad Chopra in the Grand Finale.

Nokia 15th Annual Star Screen Awards- Ashutosh and Sajid’s brawl

What was the center of attraction in the awards night was the confrontation between Ashutosh Gowarikar and comedian, actor and director Sajid Khan. But all of us here in California unanimously agreed to Ashutosh’s point of view. Sajid Khan may be a good man but his attempts at entertaining often tantamount to ridiculing stars of Bollywood. But the on stage brawl between the two drew a lot of TRPs!! People here who have missed the show on the 25^th are waiting to catch the repeat telecast on Star India Plus.

Aap Ki Kachehri- Rajiv and Maya

Domestic violence is one of the key issues addressed at Aap Ki Kachehri. In one of the episodes, Kiran Bedi investigated the case of a housewife called Maya, whose husband treated her cruelly. Maya’s husband, Rajiv, a chauffer by profession refused to share his earnings with her and beat her up whenever she protested. Morover, Rajiv allegedly swayed to the tantrums of his parents and took little care of his wife.

Kiran meted out justice to them by making Rajiv sign a bond of paying his wife a monthly allowance of Rs 5000. At the same time, she asked Maya to stay at her marital home more often. She also asked them to stay at the different apartment to prevent disputes with inlaws. In the US, what we love most about this show is the true representation of ground reality back in Indian suburbs.

Dill Mill Gaye- Armaan resorting to desperate measures

Can some one tell us what is wrong with Armaan. He seems to have gone bananas with his plans of impressing Riddhima’s dad Dr. Shashank. First he tried to power jog with him; next he came over for dinner. He finally busted all limits in the lopsided tennis match he played with Dr. Shashank only to be defeated brazenly. And just fathom the extent of his bragging when he claimed to be a tennis champion without even having a clue as to what the game looked like!!! Goodness gracious! Whatever happened to self esteem! But this guy in spite of all his monkey business still remains the desi sweetheart of school goers like us in California.

Dill Mill Gaye- Dr Abhimanyu’s soft corner for Riddhima

There is something cooking in Dr. Abhimanyu’s mind. And it has got to do with Riddhima. There is a weak spot for Riddhima lurking in his mind, which is gradually developing. Abhimanyu who is otherwise a very austere and professional doctor with more frowns and less smiles suddenly gets all so mushy when he sees Riddhima coming from a distance. Does not sound okay for lover boy Armaan!! We Texan desis can almost envisage a love triangle developing here on. Dill Mill Gaye is getting intriguing eh!

Dill Mill Gaye- Love letter gets to the wrong person

After all the hassle Armaan undertook to send Riddhima a uniquely comic and “poetic” love letter, the paper seems to elude her all the time. First he slipped it into her file from where it fell into her father’s hands! Fortunately he was not carrying a reading glass with him. After Armaan rescued this situation and put the chit back to her file, the same file reached Dr. Shashank yet again!!! Could this be the comedy of errors! We are thoroughly enjoying this bit of Dill Mill Gaye, here in California. We truly feel that Armaan’s attempt at comedy is quite entertaining.

Nach Baliye-numerological forecast goes astray!

Nach Baliye-4 aired on Star Plus is steadily becoming the most viewed show here in Boston. And why not? Nach Baliye-4 does not just have great glamorous dancers and judges but also a numerologist in the show. Last Saturday, the 20^th, we watched the start of the program totally absorbed in Sanjay Jumaani’s numerological predictions for each pair. These forecasts primarily focused on the success percentage of each pair on screen but added a few notes of off-screen chemistry between the ‘jodis’. Mauli and Mazhar got the highest success rate.

However as the show progressed, a different story unfolded. Mauli and Mazhar figured in the danger zone making them vulnerable to a sure shot elimination. We hoped that some miracle would prevent them from being removed. All our anxiety proved futile. The opposition “bale balle” team outperformed Mauli and Mazhar’s “shawa shawa” to oust them from this season’s Nach Baliye. My whole family unanimously agreed to the judges’ decision but detested the audience poll which wrote the plight of Mauli and Mazhar!

Hello Kaun, Pehchaan Kaun- Lalit Vaze in the shoes of Nana

I must give Star TV all the credit for airing this fantastic show called Hello Kaun, Pehchaan Kaun in the US. The show is an extension of Laughter Challenge which was also aired on Star One in the US. But it is way better than Laughter Challenge or so it seems as of now! Among the contestants competing with each other for best mimicry, I liked Lalit Vaze a lot. He imitated Nana Patekar immaculately! If one was to hear him blindfold, no one would believe him to be any one but the original Nana Patekar.

Final 4 perform for the last time on Friday the 12th

If anybody has watched the Friday episode of Amul voice of India on Star India Plus, they must have witnessed one of the most talented and electrifying performances so far. Vipul and Mallar sang a duet. They rocked the audience to the title track of Bachna Aye Haseeno.  It was an amazing performance and each gave their best. All of them put in 100 percent effort and energy to pave their way to the Grand Finale. The audience at Indore seemed to be entranced in the same way we were here in the US!

The top 4 of Star Voice of India appeared together for the last time on stage as they neared the elimination round.  The four contestants Saptoparna, Ravi, Vipul  and Mallar sang the title song from Krazzy 4.  Vipul who already ensured a place in the Top 3 was scarcely tense. The others prayed in anxiety.  Saptoparna was voted as the spark of the week for her outstanding performance. Sometimes I really marvel at their nerve and tenacity.

Laughter Knights- Chandan Prabhakar , absolutely hilarious

                       

 

This Saturday Laughter Knights on Star One made me laugh so much that I literally had a pain in my stomach.  Among all the comedians, I thought Chandan Prabhakar did a great job. Twice he made the judge Siddhu get off his chair in a fit of laughter.  He joked about celebrity actress Archana PuranSingh and enacted how children throw tantrums when they do not get what they want!                         

Mandira Bedi too cracked up when Chandan Prabhakar spoke in jest about the difference between city dwellers and suburban people. H e narrated a comic tale of how a villager’s father fell into a well and raised alarm in the village. The son naturally was very distressed. However couple of days later things gained normalcy. So the narrator went and asked him about his father; if he had recovered or not. The son assured him that his father was fine;  and guess how did he know that? The first day there were screams coming from the well but second day onwards the screams stopped coming…Proof enough that the man inside is safe and happy!

Here in the US, people are not quite used to such jokes, so they find it quite funny and therefore entertaining. Laughter Knights atleast in my family is increasingly becoming very popular.
